Create a piece of artwork utilizing a printmaking technique.
SIZE: no larger than 18"x24" (if you need to use our press, one side needs to be 10" or smaller). Make multiple prints of your image (an edition) unless it is a monoprint. |

Assignment 2: Synectics
1. Find a piece of artwork which you like or find inspiring.
2. Use the synectic idea triggers to come up with ways in which you can chang and redesign the inspiring artwork. 3. Make AT LEAST 5 idea sketches. 4. Create 1 or 2 finished pieces of art. Media: Artist's choice Size: 8" x 10" or larger
Synectics is an approach to creativity and problem-solving. One founder f these ideas, Gordon, emphasized the importance of "'metaphorical process' to make the familiar strange and the strange familiar".

Design a Google doodle (2D and drawing students)
Explore the industries and technologies that are shaping our future, such as: • transportation (driverless cars) • renewable energy (windmill power) • technology (3D printing, artificial intelligence) Consider what things will be like in the future: How will people communicate with family and friends? How will they commute to school and work? Will there be world peace and equality? Select one emerging technology/trend that would change your daily lives in the future.
Due for Submission by December 2

Synectics
some lessons from last year are below this message, you can use them as a sneak preview of what may coming up :)

Choose a piece of art that you have already made, you are going to make synectic changes to it.
Sketch at least 3 different synectic prompts. Try one of them a couple of times. You could use 2 different changes (or more) in an idea.
Pick your favorite sketch and create a FINISHED piece using the ideas you generated using synectics.

EMPHASIS (2-D and Drawing)
Create a piece of artwork which highlights the design principle of EMPHASIS. MEDIUM: your Choice SIZE: no smaller than 8"x10" and no larger than 18"x24" Emphasis is defined as an area or object within the artwork that draws attention and becomes afocal point. Focal point refers to an area in the composition that has the most significance, an area that the artist wants to draw attention to as the most important aspect. |
Decide on a subject (yes, this can be non-representational). If you are stuck, use plants.
Create a series of idea sketches to choose layout. Choose a size and Medium. If you are stuck, square watercolors. What will you emphasize? How? Why? |
